Rumor & Retirement

August 23rd was a day of goalie news that may impact the Wilkes Barre Penguins; unfortunately I find these announcements to be bad news. Between the rumor that Alexander Pechurski will be playing in the AHL this season to the announcement that Adam Berkhoel retired from hockey, I have not been a happy camper. more »

News from Wilkes Barre

As the hockey season inches closer everyone seems to search for any little piece of news related to hockey to fill the void that the offseason creates. Since my last post the Wilkes Barre Penguins have released enough news to keep that void pretty full. A new assistant coach has been hired, the new alternate jersey was unveiled, Pensfest took place, the preseason schedule was announced, and a date for the full schedule release has been made. more »

The Female Hockey Fan...

Throughout the time I have been a hockey fan I have noticed that female fans are treated differently by some male fans, by the media, and by the NHL organization. In the sports world, male and female hockey teams exist. There is even a team for both sexes in the Olympics. If men and women can both play hockey, why is there such a difference in treatment when it comes to being a hockey fan? Hockey is a sport that appeals to all different types of people for one reason or another. Why is it that when a female says she is a hockey fan she is automatically labeled a puck bunny and is not taken seriously? I have gotten to know quite a few female hockey fans and I can tell you that the majority of them show no resemblance to a puck bunny. more »

Is it really August already? I cannot believe how fast the summer flew by. Luckily that means hockey season is inching closer! However, before the new season gets underway, let me catch you up with what has happened in Wilkes Barre this summer. All Good Things Must Come to an End

As the title says, all good things must come to an end. This includes the Wilkes Barre Penguin's playoff run. As many of you may already know, the Albany River Rats swept the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs, eliminating the WBS Pens. The Pens being eliminated was hard on me (as you can tell by how late this post is) but I am finally ready for closure. It is time to say goodbye to the '09-'10 season. more »

The Many Faces of the WBS Pens

When you see hockey pictures on websites, the players usually look tough, focused, and/or determined. If the players saw these pictures of themselves they would most likely be happy with them. This post brings you the exact opposite. If the players saw what I am about to post and knew who I was, I would be running away from them right now. But since none of them know who I am, I present to you all: The Many Faces of the WBS Pens! more »

Steve Wagner: The Answer to Our Problems?

The beginning of 2010 was dark for the Wilkes Barre Penguins. The team started losing more and more games and the players lost their edge. Fans were questioning the coaching staff and the players' abilities. Playoff hopes were shrinking fast. But then, on February 11th, something changed... more »

Trade Madness: An AHL Fan's Perspective

One of the most exciting yet nerve-wracking times for NHL hockey fans is the time before the trade deadline. Take the nervousness that a fan might feel and multiply it by 100. This is the level of nervousness I experienced this year prior to the deadline. While I was extremely nervous about my favorite Pittsburgh Penguins potentially getting traded, I was also nervous about the effect that trades could have on my Wilkes Barre Penguins. more »
