North of Mason Dixon

Hockey may be my true love, but a piece of my heart belongs to music. I love listening to music and going to concerts and even attempt to learn to play the acoustic guitar. Although I listen to all different types of music, country music is my absolute favorite! Earlier this year I had the opportunity to see a new band perform; this band happened to be AMAZING and also happened to be from Pittsburgh. May I present to you, North of Mason Dixon, otherwise known as NOMaD...

...

North of Mason Dixon is a group of six guys who play some rockin’ country music! They are based in Pittsburgh and got their big start when they placed third in a country showdown competition in 2004. They also were chosen as Kenny Chesney’s next Big Star in 2008. Since then, NOMaD had opened for top country acts including Brooks & Dunn, Toby Keith, LeeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, and many many more. The band has also performed at events for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. The band’s website also says they have a working relationship with the Wilkes Barre Penguins, although I could not find any more information about that.

North of Mason Dixon plays a lot of covers at their concerts; some notable ones include songs by Garth Brooks and Jason Aldean as well as my favorite, Nitty Gritty Band’s “Fishing in the Dark”. NOMaD also plays some of their own music from their independently released cd called “Born & Raised”, which includes two nationally charted singles.

I have been fortunate to witness this band play live and recommend that everyone checks them out! Even if you are not a hardcore country music fan, I pretty much guarantee you will have a blast! They have such a great energy and have so much fun during their concerts. When I saw them live they also randomly started a “Let’s Go Pens” chant in the middle of the concert; that is always a fun time!

If you are attending the Steelers preseason game tomorrow, check them out in the Coca Cola Great Hall inside Heinz field an hour before game time…you won’t regret it!

If you can’t make it to the performance before the Steelers game, the band will be in Washington, PA on Friday and in Atlantic City on Saturday and Sunday. Then NOMaD invades my neck of the woods and will be performing in Dallas, PA next weekend! I am going and will be sure to take lots of pictures and bring back stories to relay to all of you!
