Defending Tomlin

Mike Tomlin is getting ripped everywhere he turns: on the airwaves, in print and all over television. I even heard Post-Gazette Stillers beat writer Ed Bouchette criticizing him on ESPN last night.
...
The controversy? Backup QBs, who will start for at least a quarter of the season. And I don't understand the uproar.
Tomlin did everything he could to allow one of Ben Roethlisberger's backups to step up and take over the job while Ben sits for at least four games. No one did.
Tomlin hoped someone would outshine the other. No one did.
I don't know what else the man is supposed to do.
He's tried everything.
Give Tomlin credit for trying to look at the QB position from every angle. He also managed to get Ben some preseasons snaps, a necessity because Ben is banished from the team as of Friday.
And don't gloss over the man who put Tomlin in this unique and uncomfortable position: Ben!
