Back to the Grind

Well, it has been a while. I know. I am currently sitting here at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh studying Web Design and Interactive Media. I am in my second semester. Going back to school after ten years isn't quite what I expected. I guess I expected more of a challenge. I mean after Arabic, everything seems so much simpler. I know, your saying that I failed, but I assure you it wasn't because of lack of effort. I gave my 100%. Here I am in computer basics and learning basic art school classes, surrounded by young people, I am still young at 31, seeing what potential they have if they just apply themselves. I remember those days. I was one of those people.

One thing I have learned to appreciate more than ever is how beautiful Pittsburgh really is. I use public transportation so my wife can attend her own schooling without the worries of harassment on a PAT bus, not that those things ever happen on the public systems! I get to see how people operate downtown. For the most part, they are very typical. I see people running to catch buses, people walking for exercise, and people walking because that is all they have to do. I see a lot more tourists than I thought possible. People are always taking pictures of downtown. It is a beautiful city.

Ok, enough of that. Back to what I am truly here about. Ovechkin is a douche. Enough said. I am pretty sure all of us already knew this, but for a local hero to spit it out is amazing. I have had several posts that talked all about numbers and how Ovechkin isn't as good as everyone makes him out to be. This just helps my cause. He is making the max for a player. He negotiated his own salary. No team can afford to pay a player the max anymore without a deep system. I believe the Capitals do have a deep system, but it hasn't panned out anywhere that it counts. Yeah, the Hershey Bears are a perennial winner, but what does that say about the Caps? It says that they can draft minor leaguers, not major leaguers.

On to the next topic, Big Ben and the Steelers. We have endured quite a bit of turmoil this offseason. The fans have spoken. We got rid of trouble and kept trouble. I like where we are sitting now. No one expects anything from us at this point. I fully believe that we will surprise everyone with a playoff run. I know that the Bengals had signed TO when writing this too. I think he is going to be more of a distraction than anything. As for the Ravens, they will have to play through us, but wont succeed. We play best as the underdog, see 5th Super Bowl Championship. We have our defense back and stronger than ever, our offense should be back on track by week four if all goes well. The schedule favors us as well. It is time to get excited.

The Pirates. What can I say. MLB says it should take 7 years to rebuild. We are on year 3. I think we are ahead of schedule. I was originally giving them 5 years, but considering we had to rebuild the farm system as well, 7 makes more sense. I know it has been 18 years, but give them their last shot. They are starting to turn the corner. I see glimpses of greatness here and there. They do need to get it all together, once they do, the other divisional opponents will be in trouble. Quote me on that. We have the talent. Just not the consistency yet. Have faith, that day is coming.

Overall, I am excited, more than most, at what I see in our sporting world. Here is to next season!
