Penguins vs. River Rats: AHL Playoffs Round 1

It is playoff time again! Time for playoff beards, whiteouts, blood, sweat, tears, lost voices, loud cheers, and most importantly, time for the WBS Pens to show that they have what it takes to fight for the Calder Cup!

Round 1 of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs start on Wednesday April 14th. Our Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins will be taking on the Albany River Rats in the first round.

This season the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins have won 6 out of 8 games against the River Rats. Of the 2 losses, one was a shootout loss. This gives me an optimistic outlook for this round of playoffs. However, I know I cannot get too confident because both losses of the season occurred in Albany; it is absolutely crucial to win away games to win series in the playoffs.

In many ways the stats from the regular season do not matter at all once playoffs start. Playoffs consist of a whole other game. Teams are not playing to be consistent or to keep a good record; they are playing to win and prove that they deserve the Calder Cup and have what it takes to win it.

I am confident in my WBS Pens when they show up to play. When they are on, they are on! Hopefully they bring the energy and determination that I know they have. They do that, and it should be one fun playoff round!
