Labor Day sports notes

Took my daughter to her first Steelers game Thursday night. She loved the festive, friendly atmosphere, but neither of us loved watching Byron Leftwich go down.

Four Quarterbacks, One Injury, One Suspension

There have been quarterback controversies in the NFL in the past, there has even been a few on the Steelers teams of old, but nothing compares to what is going on right now in Pittsburgh.

Comrie Signs 1 year $500,000 deal with Pittsburgh

I don't know how he does it, folks, but GM Ray Shero has a talent for finding...well...talent, at a minimal price.  Today it was announced that F Mike Comrie signed a 1 year deal with the penguins at the cost of $500k.  Ladies and gentleman, that is what we call, a steal.

ESPN.com Says Pitt is "It" in 2010-11

The University of Pittsburgh Men's Basketball team finished last season at 25-9, which was about ten wins more than most analysts predicted. However, big seasons from junior guard Brad Wanamaker and sophomore guard Ashton Gibbs helped propel the Panthers to a second place finish in the very tough Big East Conference. With the Panthers only losing one key player from last year (guard Jermaine Dixon), Pitt is looking to take the next step in 2010-11. So, with that in mind, what do the same experts say about Pitt this upcoming year?

This could be the first of many victories for Pitt this season. They are coming in ranked #15. I hope that means something. Or should we watch the last preseason Steeler game? Who starts at quarterback? Will they get it together? Will they live up to Sports Illustrated's Peter King and win the Super Bowl this year? Will this be the start the Steelers need to succeed?

Defending Tomlin

Mike Tomlin is getting ripped everywhere he turns: on the airwaves, in print and all over television. I even heard Post-Gazette Stillers beat writer Ed Bouchette criticizing him on ESPN last night.

Welcome back

I'll start in the middle, since I am in the middle... of my life.

Eleven years of chasing crime, sifting through lies from politicians and translating legalese from shady lawyers at the Detroit Free Press caught up with me this past spring. I finally made the toughest decision in my life: Leave journalism, a job I both loved and excelled in.
