What I learned at Umberger Performance in 2009

Eric Cressey has done this for a few years. It’s been educational and pretty funny at the same time.. Let's see in 2009 I: I finished my masters degree, had the facility that I was planning on using to train clients for the summer close it's doors with ZERO notice 7 days before I was to start full time(crack in the floor- yeah go figure), and I worked 127 days straight to open a World Class Sport Training & Wellness Facility in Pittsburgh. With all of that “stuff”, I figured that I learned a bit over the year. FYI, if you are easily offended do not read this. Save us both time by not having to write the BS emails back and forth. English freaks take note- my proof reading sucks, and I'm not paying an editor to write for a free blog.

Ben Roethlisberger: Another Incident?

So, here we are again, the offseason and another woman accusing Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault. Is it believable? Sure. Anything can happen. Did it happen? I have no idea. I can only speculate, and speculate I will!

Trade Madness: An AHL Fan's Perspective

One of the most exciting yet nerve-wracking times for NHL hockey fans is the time before the trade deadline. Take the nervousness that a fan might feel and multiply it by 10. This is the level of nervousness I experienced this year prior to the deadline. While I was extremely nervous about my favorite Pittsburgh Penguins potentially getting traded, I was also nervous about the effect that trades could have on my Wilkes Barre Penguins.

Pittsburgh Trade Scene

So far, Ray Shero is looking pretty good as our General Manager. In '07 it was 'Scary' Gary Roberts and Georges Laraque (lead to our first playoff birth in 5 years and an early exit), in '08 it was Marian Hossa and Hal Gill (lead to the Stanley Cup Finals appearance), in '09 it was Billy Guerin and Chris Kunitz (lead to a Stanley Cup Championship). It is 2010. What does Shero have up his sleeve now?

Greetings From the Other Side of the State!

You may be wondering why someone on the other side of Pennsylvania is writing for a site that is all about Pittsburgh. The answer is simple: the Wilkes Barre Penguins, or as many call them, the Baby Pens. I am a crazy, obsessed, dedicated fan and I am here to bring you along for the ride this hockey season.

Brand New

I sat here and struggled to think of a way to begin my introduction.  Should I be self depreciating like so many blogs are?  Should I be raunchy and curse a lot because I do in real life?  I don’t know.  But I think the best way to do it is just like at a bar, “Can I buy you drink?”  But in that case, I would only be lucky if 3 people read this blog or I would be tremendously broke.  Or perhaps, throw out my favorite pick up line:

Steelers and the 2010 Draft

The draft is rapidly approaching us and I believe we are all wondering where our beloved Steelers lie. I know, as fans, we all have our ideas on what we want to see our team get. To see that spectacular, unexpected pick to put us over the hump. I already believe that according to odds and statistics, we should be favored for another Superbowl appearance and/or win this coming season. I know, I know, another one? I would love to see us accomplish the Stairway to Seven, but I believe it will depend on the draft because you know we aren't diving into the free agent market.

Olympic Hockey: Better Than You Think

Here we sit, a week into Olympic competition and I hear next to nothing about ho big this tournament really is. This could be it. The best tournament left to play. The last one before money and pride come in front of the game itself. That is all it will be, but for now, it is the best tournament in this Olympics, and everyone needs to pay attention.

The Final Push

With just twenty games remaining on the schedule and sitting in fourth place in the conference, one point out of a tie for second, we have a lot of work to do after the Olympic break. I am going to look at the current situation, the trade deadline, the statistics, and the must bury teams for the rest of the season.

A Journey

There is a ton of things that can happen to a person in a lifetime that are life altering. I mean think about it, you decide to go to college and it redirects your path. You decide to quit your job to find a new one, that will redirect it as well. There are very few stable things that will or should never change, they are family, friends, and your sports teams. I know it sounds funny, but bear with me here.

Giving Thanks

This is the first of two favorite times of the year. We have to give it to the guys from the past, we wouldn't be able to be the way we are today without them. While reading this, really think about what I am saying here.

Malkin vs Crosby: Who is better?

Ok I have read enough and watched enough hockey to know that this thought has crossed not only our devoted fans' minds, but hockey fans worldwide. Is there a true answer to this question?

I am Legend

I am Legend. I figured a catchy title may intrigue you more since I haven't given you anything to read in a good while. What can I say, the Pens, although dropping a few in the last week and getting killed with injuries, are looking even better than last year. The Steelers are back on track after that big Monday night win over the Broncos. As for the Pirates, well, let's hope that really was year two of the five year rebuilding plan. Only three more to endure!

Even Champions Can Improve

The Super Bowl Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers, start their journey towards their seventh championship tomorrow as the 2009 season kicks off with a rematch of last year's Super Bowl. Many would think that there would be few questions going into the 2009 season, but even Champions must make critical decisions, especially if this team wants to repeat. The focus of this article is to provide some things to look for during the next few weeks to see if we can answer some questions circling our beloved Steelers!
